Thiruvananthapurm, April 28 -- A statewide hartal called by an action council and supported by several Dalit organisations began across Kerala on Tuesday, demanding justice for the death of Nithin Raj, a BDS student of a private dental college in Kannur.

The dawn-to-dusk hartal witnessed sporadic incidents of disruption in different parts of the state. Though organisers had initially stated that vehicles would not be blocked and shops would not be forced to close, protestors were seen stopping vehicles in several areas.
