Hyderabad, Aug. 17 -- Former Minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao on Sunday alleged that the Congress government was deliberately wasting Godavari floodwaters by lifting the gates of Yellampalli project and releasing nearly 60,000 cusecs into the sea.

Speaking to the media in Siddipet, Harish Rao demanded that the government immediately switch on the Kaleshwaram project pumps and fill up the reservoirs.

He accused the ruling party of neglecting farmers' interests due to its political rivalry with former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and himself.

"The floods should not be wasted by playing dirty politics. Many reservoirs in the Godavari basin are empty, yet water is being allowed to flow into the sea," he said.
