Hyderabad, July 28 -- Senior Congress leader and former MP V Hanumantha Rao today performed Palabhishekam (milk offering) to the statue of social reformer Jyotirao Phule at Amberpet, as a celebration of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's commitment to ensuring 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs).

The ritual, conducted with 21 pots of milk symbolizing the 21st century, was a tribute to Rahul Gandhi's promise to implement population-based reservations in line with Phule's ideology of social justice.

Describing Rahul Gandhi as the "Abhinava Phule," Rao praised him for carrying forward the legacy of Jyotirao Phule by fighting for the upliftment of weaker sections.
