Cairo, July 2 -- The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian movement Hamas, said on Tuesday that it had shelled two settlements in southern Israel from the Gaza Strip.

"The Al-Qassam Brigade shelled the settlements of Nir Yitzhak and Mivtahim with a rocket barrage ... from an area where the enemy vehicles are deployed, north of the city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza Strip," the Al-Qassam Brigades said in a statement.

On late Tuesday, air raid sirens sounded in several Israeli settlements close to the border with the Gaza Strip.
