Bengaluru, April 25 -- Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Friday granted assent to the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, 2024, clearing the path for a significant overhaul of Bengaluru's civic administration. The legislation will replace the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Act, 2020, and enable the restructuring of the BBMP into multiple municipal corporations under a centralised Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). The new law proposes the creation of up to ten smaller municipal corporations aimed at improving decentralised governance, enhancing infrastructure, and ensuring responsive civic administration.
