Srinagar, July 28 -- A gunbattle is underway between militants and security forces in the upper reaches of Dachigam on Srinagar outskirts, officials said.
This is the first encounter in Kashmir since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which left 26 civilians dead.
The Army said that contact has been established in the general area of Lidwas.
"Operation in progress," the Army's Chinar Corps said in a post on X.
Officials said a combing operation was launched following inputs about the presence of militants in the upper reaches of the Harwan area.
"As the search was going on hiding terrorists opened fire triggering a gunbattle, " officials said.
