Tokyo, Sept. 19 -- Asian champion Gulveer Singh narrowly missed creating history at the World Athletics Championships 2025 here today, falling just 0.19 seconds short of a berth in the men's 5000m final, while Annu Rani bowed out in the women's javelin throw qualifiers.

Competing in Heat 2 of the 5000m, the 27-year-old Gulveer clocked 13:42.34 to finish ninth, just behind Norway's double Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who secured the last qualifying spot in 13:42.15.

The Indian distance runner stayed in touch with the leaders through much of the race, holding third place at 1000m and second at 2900m. But a fading final lap denied him the chance to become the first Indian ever to make a 5000m final at the Worlds.
