Boston, Feb. 22 -- India's Gulveer Singh shattered the Asian 5000m short track record at the Boston University Terrier DMR Challenge 2025 in Massachusetts on Friday, while also surpassing the entry standard for the World Athletics Championships.
Competing at the Boston University Track and Tennis Centre, a venue known for producing fast times, the 26-year-old Indian distance runner finished fourth with a time of 12 minutes and 59.77 seconds (12:59.77). In the process, he became the first Asian man to break the 13-minute barrier in the 5000m short track event.
USA's Cole Hocker, the reigning Paris 2024 Olympic 1500m champion, won the race in 12:57.82, followed by compatriot Cooper Teare (12:57.97) and Australia's Jack Rayner (12:59.43).
