London, Sept. 4 -- Guitar legend David Gilmour - best known as the vocalist and lead guitarist of the renowned progressive rock icons Pink Floyd - says he hopes to have a new album out "within the next year or two".

The 79-year-old rock icon, renowned for his blues-tinged, psychedelic guitar work, focuses heavily on emotional expression, has a strong solo career and has released five studio albums so far, with a sixth one already in the works.

"I'm slowly building up towards a new album," Gilmour told Rolling Stone, "and I have quite a bit of material that is in some sort of formative stage. That's what's keeping me busy at the moment," reports Metal Hammer.
