Rio de Janeiro, Dec. 13 -- Former Porto manager Luis Castro has been appointed head coach of Gremio for the 2026 Brazilian football season, the Porto Alegre club said.

The 64-year-old Portuguese replaces Mano Menezes, who was sacked on Tuesday following a poor Brazilian Serie A campaign.

"Welcome to our home," Gremio said on social media. "A winning coach for an immortal team. May 2026 be a year of victories and triumphs."Castro will be joined by assistants Vitor Severino and Pedro Mane, goalkeeping coach Daniel Correia, performance analyst Nuno Baptista, and fitness coaches Nuno Cerdeira and Roberto Junior.
