Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 4 -- Kerala has strictly enforced a "green protocol" for its local body elections, aimed at eliminating banned materials, including thermocol, single-use plastics, and other non-biodegradable campaign items.
The authorities have deployed inspection teams who carried out 6,500 checks across various districts and detected 340 violations. Cumulative fines for these violations have crossed Rs 46 lakh across 14 districts. District-level nodal officers and Suchitwa Mission teams, acting on behalf of the State Election Commission, conducted the inspections.
During these checks, officials seized nearly two tonnes of banned materials, including thermocol, single-use plastics, and prohibited decorative items.
