New Delhi, March 3 -- Livelihood challenges faced by Nicobarese fishing communities grappling with the impacts of climate change have received a boost with the introduction of Global Positioning System (GPS)-enabled navigation devices in fishing boats, an official said today.
Unpredictable sea conditions and erratic weather patterns, coupled with the absence of precise navigation tools, had been putting fishermen at risk, with boats often drifting off course during sudden disturbances, a press statement said.
