Patna, Aug. 2 -- Union Agriculture Minister and senior BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said that farmers were the backbone of the country's economy, and the government was fully committed to making agriculture a profitable venture.
Speaking here on Saturday while releasing the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, Chouhan said that over Rs 20,000 crore has been directly transferred into the bank accounts of farmers, providing financial assistance to millions of farming families across the country.
He further stated that under the PM-Kisan scheme, more than Rs 3.77 lakh crore has been directly deposited into the bank accounts of farmers so far.
