Mumbai, Sept. 27 -- Teachers from all government schools across Maharashtra will donate one day's salary to support farmers affected by recent floods and excessive rainfall, Education Minister Dada Bhuse announced.
Large parts of the state are reeling under severe flooding and heavy rains. Entire kharif crops have been submerged, and in many areas, topsoil has been washed away, causing permanent damage to farmland.
Many households have also suffered extensive losses due to water entering homes.
To provide relief, the state government has allocated Rs 2,215 crore, and officials claim direct assistance has already begun reaching beneficiaries.
