Hyderabad, Jan. 5 -- Telangana Panchayat Raj, Women and Child Welfare Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka on Monday told the Assembly that the state government is giving top priority to women's empowerment and welfare, with a focus on economic self-reliance and social dignity.
Replying during Question Hour, the Minister said the government launched free bus travel for women within 48 hours of assuming office. She said the Indira Mahila Shakti programme has emerged as a cornerstone of women's empowerment, to ensure that every woman becomes a member of a Self-Help Group (SHG).
Women from the age of 15 to the elderly are being enrolled, with special SHGs formed for adolescent girls, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
