New Delhi, Aug. 28 -- The Central government today extended the exemption of import duty on cotton until December 31, 2025, in a move aimed at ensuring adequate availability for the domestic textile sector and supporting exporters.

The duty-free window, which began on August 19, 2025, was initially set to end on September 30, 2025. With the latest decision, importers will be able to continue bringing in cotton without paying customs duty for an additional three months.
