Hyderabad, June 7 -- In a significant move to improve public transport and curb pollution in Hyderabad, the state government has relaxed restrictions on new auto rickshaw permits within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits.
Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has issued Government Order (GO) No. 263, permitting a limited number of eco-friendly auto rickshaws.
As per the order, 20,000 electric, 10,000 LPG, and 10,000 CNG auto rickshaws will now be allowed to operate within ORR limits. Additionally, permits have been issued for retrofitting 25,000 existing diesel and petrol vehicles to convert them into electric, LPG, or CNG variants.
