New Delhi, Aug. 19 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the Government is seriously considering a proposal to build a new Parliament house.

Speaking at a function to inaugurate the new duplex flats for Members of Parliament at North block, the PM said that before the end of the last parliament session, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu had urged for the construction of a new Parliament House.

''In the last five years, various members of parliament and journalists have also been asking about a new parliament house,''the PM said.

The PM said that the government was taking the proposal seriously and has asked various officials to work on it.
