New Delhi, Oct. 4 -- In a significant move to promote digital payments and discourage cash transactions at National Highway toll plazas, the Government has amended the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.

Effective from November 15, vehicles entering a fee plaza without a valid, functional FASTag will face higher user fees- twice the applicable fee if paying by cash and 1.25 times the fee if paying by Unified Payment Interface (UPI), an official statement said.

For example, if a vehicle needs to pay a user fee of Rs 100 through valid FASTag, the fee will be Rs 200 if paid in cash and Rs 125, if paid via UPI. This amendment aims to strengthen fee collection process, enhance transparency in toll collect...
