Imphal, Sept. 26 -- The Khurai Pana Apunba Singlup & Coordinating Body has submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur, urging immediate action on a Comprehensive Riverbank Strengthening and Flood Management Project in the Manipur Valley.
The memorandum highlighted that the Imphal, Nambul, Thoubal, and Iril rivers are increasingly vulnerable to recurrent floods, bank erosion, and unregulated encroachments.
Deforestation and watershed degradation in both valley and hill ranges have worsened the situation, leading to siltation, embankment breaches, inundation of villages, loss of farmland, and extensive property damage.
