Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 18 -- The prolonged confrontation between the Kerala Governor and the State government over control of higher education has entered a phase of compromise, with a series of decisions signalling a political and administrative thaw across universities in the State.

In a significant development, the State government has removed Kerala University Registrar K.S. Anilkumar from his post and repatriated him to his parent institution, appointing him Principal of DB College, Sasthamkotta.

The move follows closely on the settlement of Vice-Chancellor appointments in key universities and is widely viewed as part of a broader "give-and-take" understanding between the Lok Bhavan and the government.
