Godavari basin dams show moderate storage despite rain
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, July 29 -- Maharashtra's Water Resources Department reported moderate to low water storage in key Godavari basin dams today, despite recent rain. Most reservoirs in Nashik and Marathwada significantly lag behind last year's levels.
Critical dams like Darna (186.84 MCM, 91.15%), Gangapur (120.63 MCM, 75.67%), and Palkhed (13.22 MCM, 71.5%) hold only 60-90% capacity. Exceptions are Bhavali and Vaki in Nashik, which are full (100%).
Major reservoirs last year were: Karanjwan (115.61 MCM, 76.01%), Ozarkhed (48.87 MCM, 81.02%), and the basin's largest, Bhandardara (265.95 MCM, 87.46%). Downstream dams like Nilwande and Dhanlore, plus Ahmednagar's Pravara and Kada, are also below par.
