New Delhi, Nov. 19 -- Former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet was on Wednesday presented the prestigious Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament, and Development 2024.

The award was presented to Bachelet by Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust, in recognition of her significant and "steadfastly striving" contributions to human rights, peace, and equality across the globe.

The jury commended Bachelet for being an "example and inspiration" for her tireless work in promoting gender equality, democracy, and development under difficult circumstances. Her commitment to LGBTQ rights, women's empowerment, and marginalised communities has made a lasting impact in Chile and internationally.
