Patna, April 11 -- CPI on Friday demanded a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre to farmers for crop damage in the cyclone in Bihar.

State secretary of CPI Ram Naresh Pandey said that the cyclone had damaged standing crops in a vast area of Bihar on Thursday, causing huge economic losses to farmers. Bihar government should pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre to farmers, he said.

" Cyclone had damaged standing crops of wheat, pulses, maize, onion, mangoes, litchi, and others", Pandey said, adding that unseasonal rains and strong winds had played havoc, causing huge losses of life and property.
