Tura, Aug. 30 -- The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), one of the three constitutional bodies under the Sixth Schedule in Meghalaya, is reeling under serious financial instability which if not addressed will lead to larger challenges for the council, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said.
Protesting employees under the banner of Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) arestaging a sit-in-protest to mount pressure on the Council to clear their 44 months pending salaries.
On Friday, the Chief Minister met with Nokma (traditional Garo Chiefs) representatives from different parts of Garo Hills led by Garo Students union President Tengsak Momin to highlightthe reformative measures to resolve financial crisis in the GHADC.
