New Delhi, Jan. 13 -- German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, accompanied by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, visited the Adalaj Stepwell in Gujarat on Monday.
Built in the 15th century, the Adalaj Stepwell is regarded as an architectural landmark and a symbol of traditional water conservation practices.
Historically, the stepwell served as a vital water source, a communal gathering space and a resting place offering relief from the heat for local residents and travellers.
Officials said the visit underscored shared India-Germany priorities on sustainability, resilience and human-centred development.
