Thiruvananthapuram, Feb. 5 -- (UNI) Kerala Police seized a large cache of explosives, including gelatin sticks and detonators, from a pick-up van intercepted in Palakkad district on Thursday.
The explosive materials were found concealed beneath a load of watermelons during a vehicle inspection carried out following a tip-off. Police said the van attempted to evade checking and was stopped after a brief chase.
Preliminary inspection revealed over 100 boxes of explosives, including a substantial quantity of gelatin sticks and multiple boxes of detonators.
The seizure raised serious safety concerns, as the explosives were being transported without valid permits or safety clearances, police added .
