Kolkata, Jan. 15 -- : Gangasagar has turned into a sea of humanity as lakhs of devotees braved the winter chill to take a holy dip at the confluence of the Ganga and the Bay of Bengal, seeking spiritual purification and salvation.
Following the ritual bath, pilgrims offered prayers at the Kapil Muni Temple. The auspicious bathing began on Wednesday and is continuing through Thursday, drawing massive crowds throughout both day and night.
According to the West Bengal government, around 85 lakh pilgrims had taken the holy dip between early January and Wednesday afternoon.
