Nagpur, Oct. 2 -- Former President Ram Nath Kovind today lauded the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for its century-long work in nation-building, recalling Mahatma Gandhi's appreciation for the organisation.
Speaking as the chief guest at RSS's annual Vijayadashami celebration in Nagpur, Kovind cited Gandhi's 1947 visit to an RSS rally in Delhi. The Mahatma reportedly noted the absence of caste-based discrimination and appreciated the Sangh's anti-untouchability stand, maintained since the time of its founder, Dr. K.B. Hedgewar.
"Gandhi observed the brotherhood among RSS volunteers, their discipline and commitment to social equality," Kovind stated.
