Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 10 -- The Kerala chapter of GAMA (Global Antimicrobial Resistance Media Alliance) has been formally launched, aiming to intensify media engagement and public awareness to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which has emerged as one of the most serious global public health challenges.

Antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria and other microorganisms develop the ability to withstand medicines, including antibiotics, rendering standard treatments ineffective.

AMR has already become a major global concern, making patient treatment increasingly difficult, contributing to millions of deaths worldwide and severely impacting healthcare systems across nations.
