Gadchiroli, Sept. 7 -- A joint operation by Gadchiroli police led to the arrest of a wanted Naxalite, accused in multiple cases of murder, armed encounters and arson, from Hyderabad, Telangana, a senior police officials from Gadchiroli told UNI on Sunday.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Shankar alias Arun Yerra Mitcha (25), a native of Bandepara village in Bhopalpatnam taluka of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. He carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head.
According to police, Shankar had joined the Medted Dalam in 2018 and became active in Gadchiroli district after 2022. Until 2024, he served in the Paramilitary Dalam. In November 2023, he allegedly murdered a tribal man, Ramji Atram, at Kapevancha village.
