Aizawl, Dec. 28 -- A fresh wave of violence in Myanmar's Chin state has pushed at least 89 refugees into Mizoram in recent days, with civilians fleeing intensified military operations in Falam township ahead of the military junta's proposed two-phase election.

Officials and village leaders said the first group-47 people from 11 families belonging to 'K' Haimual village and nearby hamlets in Falam-began crossing the Tiau river near Saikhumphai hamlet from November 28. They were later shifted to neighbouring Vaphai village on December 2 and are currently sheltered in the village community hall.
