Paris, March 25 -- Several French trade unions representing civil service employees have called for a strike on April 3 over major cuts in public spending amid increased defense spending, the UFSE-CGT union said.
"In this context, the civil service unions CGT, Unsa, FSU and Solidaires are calling for a day of action for public sector employees," the union said in a statement on Monday.
The union recalled that the government "has cancelled 9.1 billion euros ($9.8 billion) in public spending and social security," while defense spending is set to be increased.
