Paris, Dec. 28 -- Brigitte Bardot, the legendary French actress whose uninhibited screen presence reshaped ideas of femininity, freedom and desire in post-war cinema before she renounced fame to become a fervent champion of animal rights, has died.

Bardot was 91, said the Brigitte Bardot Foundation while confirming her death on Sunday.
