Jamshedpur, Aug. 9 -- Two freight trains collided head-on on the Chandil rail section of Jharkhand early today, bringing traffic on both up and down lines to a complete halt.

The accident occurred around 4 a.m., about two kilometres from Chandil station near pole number 375/22. Several wagons of both trains derailed and the engines were damaged in the impact.

The collision, which took place under the Adra division of South Eastern Railway, left some crew members injured, who are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. Senior officials, accident relief trains and medical teams rushed to the site soon after the incident.
