New Delhi, Dec. 28 -- Indian Railways recorded significant progress in infrastructure expansion, passenger comfort, freight movement and safety during 2025, laying a strong foundation for faster, safer and more modern rail travel in 2026, according to the Ministry of Railways' Year-End Review released on Sunday.

The national transporter commissioned over 900 km of new rail lines between April and November 2025 and carried out large-scale track renewals, including renewal of nearly 6,900 km of rails and complete track renewal across more than 7,000 km.

Sectional speeds were raised to 130 kmph on key routes, while electrification reached 99.2 per cent of the broad-gauge network, placing India ahead of several major rail systems globally.
