Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 2 -- Former Supreme Court Judge Rohinton Fali Nariman today emphasised that fraternity is the single most important pivot on which the nation's unity and integrity rest.
Delivering the 16th K M Bashir Memorial Lecture, organised by the Vakkom Moulavi Foundation Trust at the Press Club here, Justice Nariman underscored that secularism is an "absolute must" as a stepping stone towards achieving fraternity.
Speaking on "Fraternity in a Secular State: The Protection of Cultural Rights and Duties", he reminded that when the Constitution begins with the words "We, the People of India," it refers to all citizens - not just the majority or only adult males - and that fraternity assures the dignity of every individual.
