New Delhi, April 23 -- India and France on Thursday jointly announced a major easing of travel rules, with France removing the requirement for airport transit visas for Indian nationals passing through its airports en route to third countries.

According to MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the move comes into effect from 10 April 2026 and reflects the strengthening of strategic ties between the two nations.

He said Indian nationals transiting through mainland France exclusively by air will no longer need a transit visa, calling it a step that "reflects the enduring partnership between India and France," which has been elevated to a special global strategic partnership following the recent visit of French President Emmanuel Macron.
