Singapore, Sept. 17 -- Four people were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out in a residential building in eastern Singapore on Tuesday evening, authorities said.

Among them, three from the affected unit were assessed for smoke inhalation, one of whom also sustained minor burn injuries. The fourth, from a neighbouring unit, was also assessed for smoke inhalation.

When firefighters arrived, one bedroom in a seventh-floor unit was ablaze, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook update. The fire, which was confined to the bedroom, was extinguished using a water jet.

About 50 people from the block were evacuated as a precaution.
