Nagpur/Yavatmal, Aug. 21 -- Four children drowned yesterday while trying to swim in a trench dug for the construction of a railway bridge near Darwha-Ner, close to the railway station, officials said.
The incident took place yesterday evening when a group of children entered the water-filled trench to swim, but the depth overwhelmed them and they lost consciousness and drowned, officials said.
The deceased identified as Rihan Aslam Khan (13), Golu Pandurang Narnavre (10), Somya Satish Khadsan (10) and Vaibhav Ashish Bodhale (14), all residents of Darwha. The work on the ambitious railway project spanning Wardha, Yavatmal, Nanded is progressing rapidly.
