Kabul, Dec. 6 -- Four Afghan civilians were killed and four others injured after Pakistani forces opened fire in the border town of Spin Boldak in southern Kandahar province, TOLO news reported on Saturday.
The exchange of fire reflects an escalation in violence between Pakistan and Afghanistan's Taliban forces, with both sides accusing the other of violating a fragile ceasefire.
Residents of Spin Boldak, located along the 1,600-mile (2,600 km) border, fled overnight amid the exchange of fire, which reportedly began around 22:30 local time on Friday.
Ali Mohammed Haqmal, head of Kandahar's information department, said Pakistani forces used "light and heavy artillery," and civilian homes were hit by mortar fire.
