Aizawl, Jan. 19 -- Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday laid the foundation stone for the 24 MW Tuirini Small Hydro Electricity Power Project on the banks of the Tuirini River, a key initiative aimed at strengthening the state's power generation capacity.

The project will be implemented as an externally aided project at an estimated cost of Rs 676.98 crore, with funding through a loan from the New Development Bank. It is planned to be completed within five years.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said the project reflects the state government's push to diversify its energy mix and reduce dependence on external power sources.
