Colombo, April 20 -- Former Sri Lankan MP, and General Secretary of the Ilankai Tamil Arachu Katchi (ITAK) M.A. Sumanthiran has accused President Anura Kumar Dissanayake of bribing voters by stating that funds will be more easily allocated to councils governed by the ruling National People's Power (NPP) and not to others.

However, the Sri Lankan President has denied that he ever gave such a statement.

Taking to 'X', Sumanthiran said that it was regrettable that the President has chosen to repeatedly offer bribes to voters by stating that funds will be more easily allocated to councils governed by NPP and not to others.

Sumanthiran pointed out that this was false as it is an election offence.
