Bhubaneswar, Aug. 7 -- Former Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Bibhuti Bhusan Singh Mardaraj passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 70.

A member of the royal family of Khandapara Mardaraj was elected to the Odisha Assembly three times, first as an Independent candidate from 1980 to 1985, and later as an Indian National Congress candidate from 1985 to 1990 and again from 1995 to 2000.

He served as Minister of State for Tourism, Culture, and Planning & Coordination from 1989 to 1990.

Mardaraj later held the post of Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Assembly from 1996 to 2000.

Leaders across party lines have expressed profound grief over his demise and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
