Mumbai, Dec. 20 -- In a major political development ahead of Maharashtra's local body elections, two close associates of Uddhav Thackeray joined the Bharatiya Janata Party today.

Former MLA Subhash Bhoir and former Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor Sanjog Waghere switched allegiance to the BJP along with their supporters.

The move is being viewed as a significant setback for the Shiv Sena (UBT) at a time when the election process for 29 municipal corporations has begun. The State Election Commission commenced the nomination process earlier this week, even as political realignments and defections gained momentum across the state.
