Mumbai, Aug. 14 -- Following a prolonged political exile, former Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik was today appointed as the head of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Election Management Committee by the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction.
Malik, who was recently inducted into the party, was assigned the responsibility during the core committee meeting.
Malik, who had previously served a prison sentence in connection with alleged business links to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was reportedly kept away from active politics due to pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the Ajit Pawar group. However, with the upcoming Mumbai civic polls, the party has reinstated him to an active role.
