Shillong, Dec. 4 -- Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Dr Mukul Sangma has ruled out rejoining the Congress and described Congress as a party with a "dictatorial" central leadership.

Sangma's statement is significant after his younger brother and former TMC legislator Zenith Sangma, Zenith's wife Sadhiarani Sangma and other TMC legislators rejoined the grand-old party.

"I quit Congress because national parties have always tried to weaken the federal structure of the nation," the former Chief Minister said, noting that he had taken conscious decision when he along with 11 other then Congress MLAs split the Congress and joined the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC in November 2021.
