Mumbai, Feb. 12 -- Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Monday resigned from the primary membership of the Congress Party and is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Chavan has addressed a letter to party state president Nana Patole in this regard today and also sent his resignation of MLA membership to state assembly speaker Rahul Narvekar.

In recent years, the Congress party has been set back after set back as many prominent leaders, including Milind Deora, Baba Siddiqui, and Ulhas Patil, left the party and joined the BJP, NCP, NCP and Shinde Shiv Sena.
