Kolkata, April 4 -- : A couple of days after the Election Commission directed former Kolkata Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar to serve as a police observer in Tamil Nadu for the ongoing elections, the senior IPS officer has sought relief from the assignment, citing medical reasons.
According to the Commission's notification issued on Wednesday, Sarkar has been assigned observer duties in Tirunelveli, Ambasamudram, Palayamkottai, Nanguneri and Radhapuram constituencies in Tamil Nadu.
However, sources said he has requested an exemption from the deployment on health grounds.
