Bengaluru, Oct. 6 -- Former Karnataka State footballer Sachindra Rao, 71, died following an accident here on Sunday.

Rao, a talented midfielder, represented BEL, Madura Coats, and the Karnataka State team, and played alongside former Indian international Aslam Khan.

Rao's funeral was held today at Hebbal Electric Crematorium. He is survived by family.

Tributes poured in from former players, coaches, and football officials, including KSFA Honorary Deputy Secretary Aslam Khan.

A stalwart of Karnataka football during the 1980s, Rao served BEL Football Club for over a decade under the guidance of former Asian Silver Medalist Ethiraj and international player Sampath.
